News: Habring² And Massena LAB’s New Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
If you’re looking for an independent brand that makes some intriguing and relatively affordable watches, you could do a lot worse than Habring².
Possibly the best thing to come out of Austria since Mozart, the company comprises Maria Kristina Habring and her husband Richard (hence the ‘2’ incorporated after the brand name), as well as a couple of other employees, surely making it one of the smallest watch companies around.
Yet you’d never think it from the variety of its watches. What Habring² lacks in annual production—around 250 pieces—it makes up for with variety. Habring²’s catalogue includes minute repeaters to chronographs, vintage-style pilot’s watches to minimalist GMTs.
Its latest watch, a perpetual calendar and chronograph with monopusher, is a collaboration with Massena LAB, a kind of boutique microbrand/watch-creation studio run by industry insider William Massena. It features a brand-new manual-winding calibre, the A11CP, which improves on the previous A11P that powered its flagship Perpetual Doppel model.
Credit to Habring² for making this technically tricky combination of complications is, especially as they’ve fitted everything into a modestly sized 38.5mm case with a thickness of 12mm.
It’s a classic and beautiful dial design, too. Anyone familiar with classic Patek Philippes, like the 1518, as well as Universal Geneve’s Tri-Compax, will recognise the influence.
